Hyderabad, - The Telangana government suspended Sangareddy Central Jail Superintendent Sanjeeva Reddy for handcuffing a farmer while taking him to the hospital for treatment. The suspension follows an inquiry ordered by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy into the incident.

Heerya Naik, the farmer, was experiencing chest pains and was taken to a hospital in Sangareddy. While the jail authorities informed the Cyberabad police, they neglected to inform the Vikarabad district police, under whose jurisdiction the farmer's case falls.

Inspector General of Police Satyanarayana, along with the Sangareddy district Superintendent of Police, conducted a four-hour inquiry at the jail. The investigation revealed that the jail staff was responsible for handcuffing Naik, who is not an accused in the attack on officials during a public hearing on land acquisition in Vikarabad district. Naik is accused in a separate case registered in Balanagar.

Chief Minister Reddy expressed his anger over the incident, asking why the farmer was handcuffed. He emphasized that the "people's government would not tolerate such incidents" and ordered a comprehensive report on the matter.

The farmer has since been transferred to a hospital in Hyderabad.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao condemned the incident on social media, calling it "heartless, insensitive and shameful." He added that the Lagacharla farmers, who have been in jail for over a month, are only guilty of "not yielding to the Revanth Government’s diktats to part with their agricultural land.” Rama Rao condemned the handcuffing of Naik, who had suffered a stroke.
