Jaipur- In anticipation of increased online activity during the festive season, Rajasthan Police issued an advisory today warning residents of potential cyber fraud. The advisory highlights scams involving congratulatory messages, gift links, and fake PAN card updates.

Director General of Police (Cyber Crime), Hemant Priyadarshi, stressed the importance of public awareness in preventing these crimes. He stated that fraudsters often capitalize on occasions like Christmas and New Year by disseminating malicious links through platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, and Facebook. These links may entice users with promises of gifts or PAN card upgrades but are ultimately designed to steal personal and financial information.

Authorities urge caution against scams involving congratulatory messages, gift links, and fake PAN card updates

DGP Priyadarshi warned that clicking on such links could infect devices with malware, jeopardizing sensitive data. He urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from engaging with suspicious links or offers from unknown sources.

The advisory also addresses a new tactic involving fake upgrades to a digital PAN card (PAN 2.0). DGP Priyadarshi clarified that no such initiative is currently underway by the Central government. He advised citizens to refer exclusively to the official Income Tax Department website for any PAN-related updates or applications.

Victims of cyber fraud are encouraged to report the incident immediately through the cyber helpline number 1930, the cybercrime portal, or their nearest police station.
