"Despite the Emergency, Indira Gandhi Achieved a Massive Victory, But Under Modi's Regime..."

Activist Ajay Khare criticizes the irony and absurdity of discussing June 25 as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas'.

Reva- Ajay Khare, the National Convener of the Samta Sampark Abhiyan and a champion of democratic rights, stated that the Emergency imposed on June 25, 1975, is remembered as a black stain on the Constitution, which led to an assault on the civil liberties of the country. Meanwhile, the unannounced emergency that has been ongoing for the past 10 years is a conspiracy to murder the Constitution.

From June 25, 1975, to January 1977, individuals known for seeking pardons supported the Emergency and the 20-point government program to evade imprisonment.

It is highly ironic that these same people are now sitting in the central government and declaring June 25 as Constitution Murder Day. Such contradictory and hypocritical behavior is their hallmark.

During the Emergency, some fake patriots scrambled to seek pardons to avoid arrest under MISA/DIR and to stay out of jail. Similar to the freedom struggle, people with a mindset of seeking pardons engaged in this disgraceful act during the Emergency as well.

This game by the BJP is merely a distraction from their failures over the past ten years and their recent inability to gain the public's support in the Lok Sabha elections.

In a statement, Khare said that June 25, 1975, is undoubtedly a black mark in the constitutional history of the country, affecting civil liberties and values for 21 months. During this period, then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi made the political decision to hold Lok Sabha elections in January 1977. In the Lok Sabha elections held in March 1977, the countrymen taught her party and her a lesson by defeating them.

In 1980, the people once again handed over the reins of the country to Indira Gandhi, and she was martyred for the nation on October 31, 1984, while serving as Prime Minister. Indira Gandhi achieved a massive majority in the 1971 Lok Sabha elections with issues like the abolition of princely states' privy purses, nationalization of 14 banks, and the slogan "Garibi Hatao" (Remove Poverty). Afterwards, she tackled the long-standing issue of Pakistan, which posed a threat to our security, by dividing it into two parts and establishing Bangladesh. Her entire family actively participated in the country's struggle for independence, and her historic achievements cannot be overlooked.

The active participation of her entire family in the freedom movement and her historical achievements cannot be ignored. Under Modi's regime, an unannounced emergency has persisted for over ten years, with constitutional institutions being undermined. It seems bizarre and laughable when such people talk about observing June 25 as the Constitution Murder Day.

Khare remarked that by not giving a clear majority to the BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha elections, the public has kept them in check. Furthermore, in the recent assembly by-elections held in six states, the BJP managed to win only 2 out of 13 seats. There is a visible wave of opposition against the BJP. Overall, public discontent against BJP governments is becoming apparent.

This game by the BJP is merely a distraction from their failures over the past ten years and their recent inability to gain the public's support in the Lok Sabha elections. However, the farmers, workers, middle class, and poor segments of society now clearly understand this. Even the biased media can no longer mislead them.
