Lucknow- The Uttar Pradesh government formed a committee on Tuesday to address farmers' grievances related to land acquisition and compensation disputes. The committee, tasked with finding a solution to the grievances, has been given one month to deliver its report.

In Gautam Buddh Nagar, police detained over a hundred protesters, including farmer group leaders, on Tuesday. Protesters demanded compensation for government-acquired land. According to Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, women and elderly protesters were later released.

The committee will be headed by Abhishek Prakash, Secretary of the Industrial Development Department, and will include representatives from various government departments, including the Special Secretary Revenue, Additional Chief Executive Officer of UPEIDA, Deputy Secretary Industrial Development, and a district administration representative from the affected area. The panel will also include a local authority representative.

The committee's primary objective is to address farmer complaints related to land acquisition and compensation disputes. This includes reviewing past government orders issued on February 21, 2024, and August 27, 2024, pertaining to the matter. The committee will conduct hearings with stakeholders and investigate previous decisions to formulate a plan for resolving the farmers' concerns.

The Uttar Pradesh government hopes this initiative will lead to a peaceful resolution of the protests and ensure fair compensation for affected farmers. The committee's findings are expected to play a crucial role in shaping future policies related to land acquisition and compensation in the state.

The protests erupted after farmers from various parts of Uttar Pradesh marched towards Delhi on Monday demanding adequate compensation for their acquired land. The march, coinciding with Parliament's Winter Session, snarled traffic for commuters crossing the Delhi-Noida borders as police set up barricades and deployed security to stop the march. The farmers were stopped at the Noida-Delhi border, where they staged a sit-in, threatening to march on Delhi again if their demands are not met within seven days.
