Union Minister Inaugurates Dairy Symposium in Goa

CLFMA of India to Discuss Challenges, Policy Solutions

Goa- Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, inaugurated the two-day National Symposium of the Compound Livestock Feed Manufacturers Association (CLFMA) of India in Goa. The event saw the participation of CLFMA Chairman Suresh Deora, Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Animal Husbandry Commissioner, and former Joint Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying O.P. Choudhary.

In his address, the Minister outlined the Central Government's initiatives aimed at bolstering domestic production in animal husbandry while reducing reliance on imports. He emphasized the focus on organizing the unorganized dairy sector and tackling the issue of feed and fodder shortages. Shri Singh also commended CLFMA’s contributions to the sector and expressed confidence that such discussions would assist the government in shaping future policies.

Highlighting the vital role of livestock in India’s economy, CLFMA Chairman Shri Suresh Deora noted that the sector not only supports employment for farmers and animal husbandry workers but also boasts an impressive annual turnover of ₹12 lakh crore. He further underscored the rising global demand for quality livestock products such as milk, eggs, meat, and cheese.

Dr. Abhijit Mitra emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between government, industry, and research institutions to enhance the growth of India’s livestock industry. During the event, CLFMA honored O.P. Choudhary with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for his invaluable contributions to the sector.
