Tragedy in Kerala: Landslide Death Toll Rises to 157

Rescue and relief operations continue as more bodies are recovered

Wayanad- According to reports, the death toll in the landslide accident in Kerala has risen to 157. Rescue and relief operations are still ongoing. At Mundakkai in Wayanad, where the massive landslide hit on Tuesday, the death toll is 157.

186 people are currently undergoing treatment in various hospitals. About 100 people are still missing. The bodies of several people are still lying buried under the debris. In the Chaliyar river in Malappuram district, more bodies are being recovered. After the landslide, the bodies of several people were washed away in the river.

The death toll in the tragedy has risen to 157. Rescue and relief operations are still ongoing.

Meanwhile Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said a delegation of five ministers has been assigned in Wayanad to address the aftermath of the recent landslide and oversee ongoing relief efforts.

Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran has already reached the affected area to assess the damage and coordinate immediate response measures. Minister Ramachandran Kadannappalli, the Ministers of Revenue, Public Works, and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Departments too are supervising the rescue operations.

The CM also held a high-level meeting to expedite the rescue operations at the landslide-affected Chooralmala. It was convened at the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority office & included discussions on enhancing operations through collaboration with various central agencies & forces.

Former MP, Wayanad Rahul Gandhi shared a post on X where he said "Priyanka and I were scheduled to visit Wayanad on Wednesday to meet with families affected by the landslide and take stock of the situation. However, due to incessant rains and adverse weather conditions we have been informed by authorities that we will not be able to land. I want to assure the people of Wayanad that we will visit as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide all necessary assistance. Our thoughts are with the people of Wayanad at this difficult time."
