New Delhi: In a heart warming display of solidarity, the student community at Zakir Hussain Delhi College has penned an emotional farewell letter to Dr. Laxman Yadav, a dedicated educator who served as an ad-hoc Assistant Professor in the Hindi Department for nearly 14 years. The letter not only laments the sudden departure of a beloved mentor but also accuses the administration of political motives behind his termination.

Dr. Laxman Yadav, an advocate of Ambedkarite ideology and a vocal critic of the current political climate, was reportedly terminated on December 6th, without apparent reason, sparking concerns among the student body. The farewell letter, signed by students who have studied under his guidance, portrays Dr. Yadav as a symbol of academic and social enlightenment.

Students' Resolute Farewell Letter

The letter reads:

Respected Laxman Sir,

This letter is a small farewell from us students. All of us who have studied with you and know you because of your academic and social knowledge are saddened to hear the news of what happened to you. Your coming to class and addressing us was probably the most beautiful moment of our college, now turned into memories.

We all know that you have been fired without any logic or reason; there is deep politics behind it. At the grassroots level, we see the social ideals we learned from you being torn apart. But these lessons taught by you are not just ideals for us; they have also become important aspects of living life. We now want to fight to implement the idealistic principles of social equality, unity, brotherhood, and justice that we learned from you at the grassroots level.

Even today, as soon as the clock strikes 1.40, while sitting in the class, I feel that now you will come and start teaching us. But this is just a dream now. You have taught us to weigh right and wrong and find our truth. We will all continue to fight against this sycophantic institution to get you back into class and establish our truth until you return to college.

In today's political environment, with the foundation of saffronization of education being laid, a teacher like you, who holds Ambedkarite ideology and labels wrong things as wrong, is a staunch opponent of this fascist government, with whom this has happened. We are both new branches and roots of this huge tree of your thoughts.

Ultimately, we want to convey that we will continue to follow the path shown by you and keep your ideas alive in these classrooms and campuses. We will all continue to fight for you against this cruel system, as Pash writes that we will fight and will continue to fight until there is still a need to fight.

Your disciple,

Student Community

33 Professors Let Go After Recent Selection Committee

At least 33 ad-hoc faculty members across various colleges of Delhi University faced immediate termination from their duties following the recent selection committee decisions.

An official office order received by the affected faculty members in the Hindi and Philosophy Department of Zakir Husain College of Delhi University stated, "The term of appointment of all the Assistant Professors working on an ad-hoc basis in the Hindi and Philosophy Department of the College will be terminated with effect from 6/12/2023 (afternoon)." This abrupt decision sent shockwaves through the academic community, prompting concerns about the fate of these educators and the potential implications for academic continuity.

Professor Yadav is not just an educator but a revered figure among the students, admired for his dedication and teaching prowess. Following the news of his termination, alongside several other teachers, students took swift action by initiating a protest on the college campus. They demanded the reversal of the ad-hoc teachers' terminations.

Despite the logistical challenge posed by ongoing semester examinations, the protest persisted for a notable three days on the campus grounds. In tandem with physical demonstrations, the students have seamlessly transitioned their activism to virtual platforms, leveraging social media to sustain their cause. Additionally, they are employing various strategies, such as distributing pamphlets, to ensure that their voices continue to resonate beyond the confines of the college walls.

In a conversation with Mooknayak, a student revealed that a close colleague of Dr. Yadav was visibly moved by the protest but advised them to prioritize their studies. While the physical demonstration has been withdrawn, the students remain resolute in their cause. They plan to channel their efforts into writing letters and petitions, ensuring that their collective anguish is expressed through various avenues, including social media.
