Jaipur- In a historic move, the National Law Universities (NLUs) Jodhpur has introduced reservations for students from Rajasthan for the first time, a gesture lauded as a significant gift by the government for the local students. The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2024) is set to take place on December 3 across all 22 National Law Universities (NLUs) in the country. Notably, a 29 percent reservation has been implemented for students of Rajasthan origin in this examination, marking a ground breaking development.

Out of the total 120 seats available, 35 have been earmarked for students from the state. The mode of examination will be offline.

In a noteworthy shift in the CLAT exam pattern, the number of questions has been revised from 150 to 120, maintaining the total marks at 120. This adjustment has been made to enhance the examination experience. In previous instances, the question paper consisted of 150 questions.

The Consortium of National Law Universities will be conducting the CLAT exam in Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Kota. This examination provides admission to five-year undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses. The exam is scheduled on Sunday from 2 pm to 4 pm, with candidates expected to report to the examination centers by 1 pm.

The prolonged debate over reservations between the state government and NLU Jodhpur regarding the reservation (state domicile) of students from Rajasthan has been resolved this year. For CLAT 2024, NLU Jodhpur has implemented a 29 percent reservation for students of Rajasthani origin, marking a significant departure. In addition to State Domicile, NLU Jodhpur has introduced provisions for OBC and MBC reservations for the first time. It's important to note that reservation based on state domicile is already in place in the remaining 21 NLUs across the country.

In the past, reservations were applicable exclusively for SC/ST and disabled candidates. The five-year law course at NLU Jodhpur comprises 104 general seats and 17 NRI seats. The revised seat matrix includes 62 seats for the General category, 25 for OBC, 18 for SC, 9 for ST, and 6 for MBC.

The distribution of reservations for NLU Jodhpur's 120 seats is as follows: 62 seats for the General category nationwide, 16 seats for the General category within the state, 25 seats for OBC nationwide, 6 seats for OBC within the state, 18 seats for SC nationwide, 5 seats for SC within the state, 9 seats for ST nationwide, 2 seats for ST within the state. Additionally, the state government has reserved 6 seats for the Most Backward Class category, with no reservation for MBC at the All India level.
