Lucknow- Expressing deep concern over the plight of students who have been denied scholarships for the financial year 2025-26, Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad has written an urgent letter to Asim Arun, the Minister of State for Social Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh.
In his letter, the MP highlighted a recurring crisis, stating that his office has been flooded with complaints and messages from a large number of students. He noted that the issue is not limited to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Class (OBC), and Minority community students, but also includes economically weaker students from the General category, all of whom have been left out of the scholarship scheme.
Azad described the situation as "extremely worrying," pointing out that these students rely on the scholarships to pay for their fees, books, and other academic necessities. The delay, he warned, is creating a serious disruption in their studies. Many students are now unable to submit their fees, purchase study materials, or continue their online and offline education, putting their future at significant risk.
The MP was critical of the systemic nature of the problem, stating that this is no longer an exception but has become a permanent issue year after year. "Delays in disbursement, technical glitches, and procedural negligence have continuously come to the fore, and the direct consequence is borne by poor and underprivileged students," the letter reads.
According to the information received by the MP's office, the primary reasons for students being denied scholarships include:
Errors related to income certificates.
Problems with Aadhaar-Bank account linking.
Technical glitches in the portal.
Delays by educational institutions in forwarding applications on time.
Students, frustrated and anxious, are being forced to run from pillar to post at government offices but are finding no satisfactory resolution.
To address this, MP Azad has made the following five demands to the state government:
Reopen the scholarship portal to give affected students a chance to correct their applications and documents.
Make the income certificate verification process simpler, transparent, and time-bound.
Ensure strict monitoring and necessary action against institutions negligent in forwarding applications on time.
Organize special camps to resolve banking and Aadhaar-linking issues.
Provide scholarships to all eligible students immediately to prevent further disruption to their education.
"Education is the right of every student, and hindering any student's studies due to financial constraints goes against the basic principles of social justice," the MP wrote in the letter.
He urged the minister to take cognizance of this serious matter and initiate necessary action without delay.
