Allahabad University Fined by High Court: Student Wins Case Against Unfair Admission Practices

Taking the matter seriously, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 on the university for compelling the student to resort to legal action.

Prayagraj- In a case reflecting grossly unceremonious behavior on the part of the university, Allahabad University has been fined by the Allahabad High Court following a petition filed by a student. The student's application was rejected after the university changed the eligibility criteria for the course post the completion of the admission process. Taking the matter seriously, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 on the university for compelling the student to resort to legal action.

The applicant had applied for the Women Studies course at Allahabad University in PGT 2022, scoring 141.1 in the entrance exam. However, he discovered that his application had been rejected, leading him to file a revised application.

The applicant argued that the criteria cannot be changed midway through the process. The court observed that the applicant was treated unfairly and held the university responsible for wasting time by unnecessarily involving the courts.

A Deliberate Vendetta Politics Behind the Move

The applicant alleged that there is more than meets the eye in the case. Speaking to Mooknayak, Ajay Yadav said, "This is not the first instance where I was prevented from taking admission. I had applied for another course as well, but there was no download option available against my name, despite submitting Rs. 1800 as the exam fee, and my form was accepted. Similarly, in the Women Studies course, I was the topper in the entrance exam, but the eligibility criteria were changed to 9 CGPA from 60% after the Vice-Chancellor learned that I was taking admission."

He added, "The Vice-Chancellor of the university is deliberately creating roadblocks against me as I have petitioned the court against her appointment." Yadav claimed that the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Sangeeta Srivastava, has been appointed in violation of UGC rules as she does not have 10 years of experience as a professor.

"The court has acknowledged that I lost more than one and a half years in litigation against the unfair treatment given to me and has directed the university to pay a fine of Rs. 50,000 to me within 50 days."
