New Delhi: Celebrities generally talk about their project and personal and professional lives while promoting their movies. But Janhvi Kapoor surprised many when she said it would be interesting to watch the debate between Dr BR Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi during the Poona Pact of 1932 — a negotiated settlement, which significantly shaped the political representation of Scheduled Castes (SC).

The Bollywood actress these days is busy promoting her film ‘Mr. and Mrs. Mahi’. He is seen appearing on different media platforms.

In an interview with The Lallantop, she said, “I think it will be very interesting to watch the debate between Ambedkar and Gandhi.”

Talking about what happened between the two leaders before the Poona Pact was signed, she said, “The debate was as to whom they were standing with. I think it will be very interesting to know how their views kept changing, how they influenced each other and how both of them helped each other. They helped our society so much.”

The host of the interview said that the views of Gandhi and Ambedkar about the Dalit society were quite different. The topic is still fiercely discussed in political science classes.

To this, Janhvi replied, “Yes, they were having different opinions. I think Ambedkar was clear and strict about it from the beginning. But Gandhi’s views continued to evolve. There is a lot of difference between getting information about the problem of casteism in our society from a third person point of view and living it.”

Janhvi was asked if she and others ever talked about it in school. She responded, “Not in my school. There has never been any discussion regarding caste in my house either.”

Video Went Viral on Social Media

It appears as if Janhvi talking about such a loaded topic and giving her opinion has blown everyone’s mind on social media. The host of the interview also seemed quite surprised after listening to the actress. At one point, he even said he was not expecting such a conversation.

The video of the interview has gone viral on social media, with users describing the actress as “beauty with a brain”.

Directed by Sharan Sharma, her movie, wherein she will be seen with Rajkumar Rao, is going to be released on May 31.
