Rajasthan: Three men have been arrested by the police following an incident where a Dalit groom's baraat procession was attacked in Shobhawaas, a village under Saira police station in Nandeshma Panchayat, Gogunda block of Udaipur district in Rajasthan.

The incident occurred on Monday late night when the Bindoli was being taken out with the groom Subhash son of Ratanlal Nagayachi outside his home in the village.

One Mohan Singh recklessly rode his bike through the women walking in the baraat procession, spraying mud on their clothes. This sparked a heated conversation as Mohan Singh hurled casteist remarks and abuses at people walking with the procession. Mohan Singh waited outside his home for the baraat to pass by and called out his sons Pawan Singh and Jitendra Singh too. They pelted stones at the unsuspecting people, causing injuries to over half a dozen people including an elderly woman and two children.

Four similar incidents in recent years

The people ran helter skelter to save themselves while Mohan Singh and his sons ran to the terrace of their home and continued their stone attack on people. They even switched off the lights of their home so that people could not see them.

The police was informed which arrived at the scene shortly after the attack and arrested Mohan Singh and his two sons. The injured were rushed to the primary health centre while two children who sustained severe head injuries were referred and admitted in Udaipur civil hospital. Girva DySP Bhupendra Singh and Saira SHO Nathu Singh met the villagers and took details of the incident. The villagers told the police that some anti-social elements have been trying to disturb the social harmony in the area and four similar incidents has taken place in the recent past. A case has been charged and the investigation has begun, police said.

The incident has sparked outrage across the state, with many people condemning the caste-based violence and calling for measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

The attack has left a deep scar on the village of Shobhawaas, and the injured are currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. The local administration has promised to take action to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. The incident is a stark reminder that caste-based discrimination and violence are still prevalent in many parts of India, and much more needs to be done to eradicate it.
