Aligarh- A major controversy has erupted in the Akrabad police station area of Aligarh district in Uttar Pradesh after a man allegedly tore a wedding invitation card that featured a photo of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution. The incident, which took place in the Nagla Sarataj village of the Akrabad region, has triggered widespread anger among Dalit communities and political activists, leading to a tense situation in the area just a day before the scheduled wedding on April 29.

According to initial reports, a Dalit family had printed wedding cards with a picture of Dr. Ambedkar as a mark of respect, and while these cards were being distributed, a young man from the same locality was enraged. His anger stemmed from the fact that the card featured Ambedkar and Buddha but no pictures of Hindu gods, which he considered an unacceptable omission.

The situation escalated quickly when the accused not only tore the card but also deliberately crushed it under his feet, filming the entire act on his mobile phone where he can be heard hurling abuses. He then proceeded to share the video as a reel on social media, where it went viral within hours, instantly turning a local dispute into a high-voltage political and social issue.

The viral video showed the young man aggressively tearing the wedding card and stomping on it while making objectionable remarks, which was seen as a direct insult not just to a family but to the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar, who is revered as a symbol of Dalit rights and social justice. As the clip spread rapidly across platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp, outrage began to build in and around Aligarh, with members of the Dalit community and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers deciding to take immediate action.

By late evening , a large number of protesters, led by local BSP leaders including Avnesh Kumar, Gulshan Babu, and Ankit Gautam, gathered outside the Akrabad police station. The protesters raised slogans against the accused and demanded his immediate arrest, arguing that the act was a deliberate attempt to humiliate an entire community and that such behavior would not be tolerated under any circumstances. They submitted a formal written complaint to the police, urging them to book the accused under stringent legal provisions, including the SC/ST Act, which deals with atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

In response to the growing tension and the possibility of a law and order breakdown, the Aligarh police have taken the complaint. Station House Officer (SHO) Vinod Kumar confirmed that the matter has been taken very seriously, and a thorough investigation is underway.

"We have received the complaint and have seen the viral video. Legal action will be taken as per the law," the SHO stated. Police sources also indicated that statements from the family, who was planning the wedding, would also be recorded to understand the full sequence of events.
