Chennai — The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Sunday adopted a resolution strongly criticizing Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent comments about Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.

The resolution was approved during the party’s executive committee meeting held at Anna Arivalayam, the DMK’s headquarters in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M. K. Stalin presided over the gathering, which also saw the party rejecting the proposed 'One Nation, One Election' Bill and opposing a tungsten mining project planned for Madurai district.

The meeting brought together approximately 1,000 party functionaries, including key leaders such as General Secretary Duraimurugan, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Treasurer T. R. Baalu, Principal Secretary K. N. Nehru, Organising Secretary R. S. Bharathi, MP Kanimozhi, and other senior members.

As part of its strategy for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the DMK has set a goal of winning 200 out of the state’s 234 Assembly seats. To achieve this ambitious target, the party has urged its cadre to amplify awareness of the welfare initiatives rolled out under Chief Minister Stalin's leadership.

A dedicated election cell, operating from Anna Arivalayam, has been tasked with overseeing campaign efforts. Led by Udhayanidhi Stalin, who also heads the youth wing, the cell includes senior leaders like Organising Secretary R. S. Bharathi and ministers Thangam Thenarasu, E. V. Velu, and K. N. Nehru.

The DMK has also appointed full-time coordinators for each Assembly constituency. These representatives will engage with communities to highlight the transformative impact of the state government’s welfare programs, reporting directly to the election cell.

Currently, the DMK holds 133 seats in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, while its allies—the Congress (18), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (4), CPI (2), and CPI-M (2)—bring the alliance’s total to 159 seats. In the last election, the DMK-led alliance achieved a vote share of 45.38 percent. With a robust campaign strategy that includes close monitoring and grassroots-level engagement, the party aims to further consolidate its position in the state.
