Hyderabad- Police in Cyberabad are investigating allegations of female students being secretly filmed in the hostel washrooms of CMR Engineering College. The incident sparked protests on Wednesday night at the college campus in Medchal, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Female students allege that they saw a shadow of a person filming them through the washroom ventilator. They reported the incident to the hostel warden, Preethi Reddy, but claim they received no response. This led to students initiating a protest, demanding action against the college management and expressing concerns that their videos may have been recorded.

In response to the allegations, police have taken six male mess workers and the hostel warden into custody for questioning. The workers' mobile phones have been seized and are being analyzed for any evidence of video recordings. Police seized 12 mobile phones from the workers.

"We have so far found no evidence that they recorded videos. We have not found any obscene videos in their phones. However, we are verifying if any videos were deleted,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police B. Srinivas Reddy.

Police have also registered a case against the college management under Sections 77 (voyeurism) and 125 (endangering personal safety or life of others) of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Medchal Police Station. The ACP stated that the management is being investigated for negligence in employing male workers in the hostel mess and providing them accommodation near the ladies' washroom, which gave them access to the ventilator.

Fingerprint experts are also collecting and analyzing fingerprints from the ventilator glass to identify any matches with the workers' fingerprints.

Meanwhile, the Telangana State Women’s Commission has taken suo moto notice of the incident and ordered a separate investigation. The Commission has issued a notice to the Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, demanding swift action and a report on the findings.

To address the tense situation, the college management has declared a three-day holiday. Student bodies, including the NSUI, SFI, and ABVP, have joined the protests, demanding stringent action against those responsible.

ACP Srinivas Reddy appealed to parents not to be alarmed by rumors circulating about the number of videos recorded, stating that no evidence of such exists at this stage.
