Uttarakhand Gears Up for New Criminal Laws

State government completes preparations, sends officers for training

To prepare for the implementation of three new criminal laws, the state government of Uttarakhand has completed the preparations and will soon implement them.

According to the information received, the Uttarakhand government has finalized the preparations for implementing the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023 laws. These new laws will replace the existing criminal codes of Uttarakhand.

To implement these laws, the state government has sent 50 officers from various training centers to Ghaziabad and Jaipur for studying the new laws. For the employees who are not directly involved in investigations, the online modules of the new laws have been prepared by the state government.

In collaboration with the Central Detective Training Institute (CDTI) and Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), the state government has also prepared a handbook of Uttarakhand Police to make it easier for the officers to understand the major laws. The state government has also arranged for the training of 1,000 recruit constables and 500 head constables on the new laws.

According to the information, the state government has also sent an assistant professor from the National Law University, New Delhi, for training of IPS officers and senior superintendents of police.

Chief Secretary Radha Raturi said, "We've made full preparations for the implementation of these new criminal laws."
