The government said on Friday that onion prices were stabilizing as the quantity of rabi onion released in the market by farmers increases. According to the government, the domestic market has enough onion supply even though the farmers have reduced the production of rabi onion by about 27 percent this year compared to last year.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution said, "The availability of onion in the domestic market is comfortable despite marginally lower production of onion in this season compared to last year." The Ministry further said, "The estimated rabi-2024 production of 191 lakh tonnes of onion is sufficient to meet domestic consumption."

According to the Ministry of Agriculture's assessment of different states, the targeted area of Kharif onion this year is 3 lakh 61 thousand hectares, which is 27 percent higher than last year.

The government has also increased the target area for Kharif potato by 12 percent. According to experts, the production of Kharif tomato is also expected to increase.
