NHAI aims to reduce delays at toll plazas and enhance commuter convenience.

New Delhi- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will start charging double toll on vehicles that do not have their FASTag enabled on the front windshield.

The NHAI said that the non-affixation of FASTag on the windscreen leads to delays at the toll plazas. This will cause inconvenience to the commuters.

"Detailed Standard Operating Procedures have been issued to all User Fee Collection Agencies and Concessionaires to charge double user fees in case of non-affixation of FASTag on the front windshield," the NHAI said in a statement.

At present, about 98% of the total users of FASTag pay the user fee. Under this scheme, the user fee will be collected for about 45 thousand kilometres of national highways and expressways at more than 1 thousand toll plazas across the country.
