New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that India and China have reached a "broad consensus" on restoring the status quo along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. This significant development in the ongoing India-China relations was shared by Singh during his keynote address at the 'Chanakya Defence Dialogue'.

The agreement, emphasizing equal and mutual security, is a result of ongoing diplomatic and military discussions between the two nations. Singh highlighted the importance of continuous dialogue in resolving differences, stating, "The broad consensus achieved by India and China to resolve their differences in certain areas along the LAC is proof that continuous dialogue brings solutions."

This consensus covers crucial issues such as patrolling and grazing in traditional areas. Singh further emphasized India's commitment to self-reliance in defence, stating that it is a "prominent national goal." He outlined the positive impacts of this self-reliance on India's economy, including boosting income, generating jobs, and fostering research and development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a related development, met with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the BRICS Summit. He welcomed the recent agreement on patrolling arrangements along the LAC and stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability on the border. Modi urged that mutual trust be the cornerstone of bilateral relations, emphasizing that the India-China relationship is pivotal for global peace, stability, and progress.
