Jaipur- Most of us are bound by the temptation of accumulating wealth and property, and the thought of donating a significant part of our property appears quite revolting. However, Gopali Devi, a tribal woman from Rajasthan has emerged as an inspiration after donating her 1 bigha 11 biswa land worth Rs 45 lakh for the government school in her village. The woman belongs to the village Naanpura and has donated the land for a senior secondary school in her village. The village and the school staff have expressed gratitude for this noble step taken by the lady.

The Mooknayak spoke to Gopal Meena, former MLA of the Jamwa Ramgarh assembly seat, under which the village of Gopali Devi Meena falls. He said, “The husband of the lady, Jayram Meena, died years ago, and upon the insistence of her brother, she donated her land measuring 1 bigha and 11 biswa or 4500 sq meters worth 45 lakh.” He informed that the land was donated one and a half months ago. " The school was having a shortage of land, and the donated land would come in handy for the school premises; it can be used for the playground. I appreciate her work, and therefore I have called her tomorrow morning for felicitating her", the ex-MLA said.

However, it must be remembered that Gopali Devi is not alone in this noble cause, but there have been several such instances where ordinary people with marginal land holdings have donated their land for a good cause. Here are some examples:

Huchchamma Chowdri, also known as Ajji (granny), a 68-year-old childless lady from Kunkeri village in Koppala district of Karnataka, donated 2 acres of land belonging to her for the village school. According to local media reports, she works as a head cook for mid-day meals at the same school, and when the school is closed, she works in the fields. Her husband died around 30 years ago. Her contribution and sacrifice were acknowledged as she was felicitated by the state government along with the likes of former ISRO chairman S Somnath and golfer Aditi Ashok on the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsava or foundation day by the state government on 1st November 2023.

Ramsharan Shakya, a 57-year-old teacher from Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh, donated a total of 4 acres of land between 2007-2009 to build a primary school in his ancestral village of Nagla Angad. The school now has more than 300 students. He was felicitated on the occasion of Teacher's Day on 5th September 2002. Shakya was orphaned at the age of 6 and was brought up by the people of the village.

Ponmanidevi, an 80-year-old retired government headmistress from Erode district in Tamil Nadu, donated her 1-acre land worth 4 crore for a school in Chitode. Talking to The News Minute, she said that she has now dedicated her life to making it easier for girl children to get an education.
