Udaipur- A 19-year-old woman, formerly a resident of the government-run Balika Grih in Chitrakoot Nagar, Udaipur, has accused a doctor of sexually harassing and impregnating her while she was a minor under the institution’s care. The alleged incidents took place between 2022 and June 2025.

The complainant claimed that the doctor threatened to frame her and her partner if she resisted or reported the abuse. She further alleged that she informed female staff at the Balika Grih and a member of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) about the incidents, but no action was taken. Additionally, she stated that a staff member at the facility provided her with an abortion kit, leading to the termination of her pregnancy.

Now residing in Maharashtra, the woman filed a Zero FIR in Raigad, which was transferred to Udaipur’s Sukher Police Station on July 18, 2025. She also claimed that other girls at the Balika Grih confided in her about similar experiences but remained silent due to fear. Sukher Police Station Officer Ravindra Charan confirmed that an investigation into the allegations is underway, with the FIR detailing several disturbing claims.

The residents expressed satisfaction with the current arrangements at Nari Niketan.

On Sunday, District Collector Namit Mehta conducted an inspection of Udaipur’s Nari Niketan in response to these serious allegations. Accompanied by Joint Director of Social Justice and Empowerment Department Girish Bhatnagar, Assistant Director of Child Rights K.K. Chandravanshi, and other officials, Mehta assessed the facility’s operations and engaged in direct conversations with the resident girls and staff.

During the visit, Mehta spoke empathetically with the girls, encouraging them to share any concerns openly. The residents expressed satisfaction with the current arrangements at Nari Niketan. He directed officials to conduct a parallel departmental inquiry alongside the police investigation and to submit a comprehensive factual report on the allegations, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability.

Yashoda Pania, acting chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), stated that the complainant arrived at the Balika Grih with a two-month-old infant. Upon reaching adulthood in June, she was released as per regulations, with her child then approximately two and a half years old. Pania noted that routine health check-ups for residents are conducted under the supervision of female doctors and dismissed the allegations as baseless. Nari Niketan Chairperson Preeti Jain and Balika Grih Chairperson Disha Bhargav, when contacted, stated they were unaware of the case and had not received any formal information regarding the allegations.
