Varanasi- The IIT-BHU campus in Uttar Pradesh grabbed headlines for the wrong reasons when it was learned that a female student was molested near the campus. However, new revelations in the case have added to the severity of the matter, revealing that the student was not only molested but also allegedly gang-raped. The miscreants gang-raped her and recorded the video.

The victim has recorded a statement under Section 164 of the CrPC, following which new sections 376(D), 354(B), and 509, besides Section 66(E) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, have been added.

The lowdown of the incident

The female IIT student was allegedly raped when she had gone out of her hostel with a male friend on Thursday, November 2nd. The two students were ambushed by three individuals on a bike. The men separated them, forcibly disrobed and raped the girl, threatening her when she sought help. The victim sought refuge at a nearby professor's residence, deeply traumatized by the experience. This incident prompted a large protest on November 2nd, with the police registering a case under Section 354(B) and Section 66(E) of the IT Act. However, it is to be noted that as per the previous statement of the survivor, she was not raped, but in the latest statement, she has revealed that the bike-riding criminals had also raped her.

The matter, which until now was being investigated by Inspector (crime) Sahajanand Shrivastava, will now be handed over to SHO Shivakant Mishra of the Lanka Police Station.

The Accused Still Not Identified

It has been more than seven days since the incident took place, but the accused are still at large. Notably, when Mooknayak spoke to the police officers at the Lanka Police Station on November 3rd, the officials had told The Mooknayak that the police are trying to identify the miscreants with the help of CCTV footage. However, even after one week, the police have drawn a blank. It is to be remembered that Benaras Hindu University, a central university, is one of the most important places in Varanasi, the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On Wednesday, IIT-BHU students protested against the lack of progress in the investigation of the case and boycotted their classes. Meanwhile, Mutha Ashok Jain, Benaras Police Commissioner, told The Mooknayak that the victim has given her written statement in front of the police and magistrate, and the miscreants will be arrested by the police at any cost very soon.
