Delhi— A shocking case has once again come to light from the capital city of Delhi. The matter concerns the Zafarpur police station of Najafgarh. Where an accusation has been made of the alleged rape and murder of a Dalit young woman. According to the family members, the young woman was missing since May 11 and a report of her disappearance was lodged on May 22, and the very next day the body of the deceased was found in Rohtak. The deceased was a singer by profession and had left home for some programme. The family has alleged that the police did not take action, otherwise, the young woman's life could have been saved. At the same time, to protest for justice the victim's family sat with her dead body outside the police station throughout the night in the pouring rain.

What is the whole matter about?

The case pertains to the Zafarpur police station in Najafgarh, where an allegation has been made of the rape and murder of a Dalit singer. The victim's family has alleged that their daughter had gone to Rohtak for some programme, but late in the evening, when they had not been able to talk to her, they went to the police station to get a report written. It took two-three visits, however, to have a missing person report lodged but no action was taken. The victim's family  has said that "If the police had taken the matter seriously, the life of the deceased could have been saved." The family has alleged that their daughter was raped and murdered. But instead of taking action, the police are trying to protect the accused.

The young woman went to Rohtak for a programme

The sister of the deceased said that on May 11, her sister had gone to take part in a programme and that two of her friends had accompanied her. Late in the evening, when they were not getting through on the sister's phone, they called up the friend who had gone with her, who said about being with her, but after some time their phone also kept coming switched off. The sister of the deceased further said that when we suspected that something wrong had happened, we tried to register a complaint at the police station, but the police let two-three days pass by just making us go again and again to the police station. Later on, while they did file the missing person report, no proper action was taken. She alleges that the police did not try to find her sister. "If the police had acted in time, my sister's life could have been saved. The police are also trying to protect the friends who went with my sister, they are not even interrogating their family members," the sister told The Mooknayak.

All through the night, family members sat with the dead body outside the police station

The victim's family with the dead body and Bhim Army workers kept protesting outside the Zafarpur police station all through the night in the pouring rain and demanding that the culprits be caught at the earliest. The family has alleged that the daughter was first gang-raped and then murdered. The family also alleged that we are not being heard in the capital of the country because we are Dalits. But we will go from here only after getting justice.

On the same matter, SI [Sub-Inspector] Vikas (Rohtak, Haryana) said that on the evening of May 22, a mutilated body was found near Bhaini-Bharon village and the body could not be identified at that time. Later on, he came to know that an FIR [first information report] had been registered in this case under section 365 IPC [Indian Penal Code] at Zafarpur police station in Delhi. After which, the body was identified as that of a Haryanvi singer. Now the matter had been handed over to the Delhi Police.

In talking about the whole incident, the Zafarpur police said that the accused person has been arrested from Meham in Haryana. While providing information on the matter, they said the accused had conspired to kill the woman and she had been invited to Rohtak on the pretext of making a music video.
