Jaipur- In an unforeseen and dramatic turn of events, the political landscape of Rajasthan witnessed the appointment of Bhajan Lal Sharma, a first time MLA from Sanganer, as the Chief Minister. This surprising decision left both politicians and the public astounded, especially in the wake of recent political shifts in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Following a legislature party meeting, Rajnath Singh skillfully managed discussions with potential Chief Minister contenders. Subsequently, Bhajan Lal Sharma's name was announced as the chosen Chief Minister. Notably, Diya Kumari and Premchand Bairwa have been designated as Deputy Chief Ministers, adding another layer of unexpected developments to the political scenario in Rajasthan.
Vasudev Devnani, senior BJP leader, has been chosen as the next Rajasthan Assembly Speaker. Devnani first time won the Ajmer West constituency in the 2003 election by defeating Congress candidate Naren Shahani Bhagat with a margin of 2,440 votes. He won the Ajmer North constituency in the 2008 Election by defeating Congress candidate Dr Shrigopal Baheti with a margin of 688 votes. Devnani again won the seat in the 2013 Rajasthan Assembly Election by defeating Congress candidate Dr Shrigopal Baheti with a margin of 20,479 votes.
Devnani was victorious again in the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly Election by defeating Congress candidate Mahendra Singh Ralawata with a margin of 4,644 votes.
Hailing from Atwari village in Bharatpur district, Bhajan Lal Sharma marks the second Chief Minister from Bharatpur after Jagannath Pahadia. This victory comes as his maiden term as an MLA, having won from the Sanganer Assembly seat in Jaipur. Notably, Bhajan Lal Sharma embarked on his political journey with the ABVP.
Coming from a Sangh background, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma shares close ties with National President JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Despite his roots in Bharatpur district, he contested and won from the Sanganer assembly constituency in Jaipur, securing a significant victory with a margin of over 50 thousand votes. Sharma's political influence is underscored by his four consecutive terms as the state general secretary of the BJP.
Diya Kumari, the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Vidyadhar Nagar seat in Jaipur, has been chosen as the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
In the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly elections, Diya Kumari secured a significant win from the Vidyanagar constituency, defeating her Congress rival Sitaram Agarwal by over 71 thousand votes. This victory marked the most substantial margin in the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly elections. Previously, she served as the MLA from Sawai Madhopur from 2013 to 2018 before being fielded by the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where she became a Member of Parliament (MP) from Rajsamand.
Aged 52, Diya Kumari is the granddaughter of the last Maharaja of Jaipur, Mansingh II. Her son, Padmanabh Singh, is the successor of the Jaipur royal family.
Diya Kumari's personal life has been marked by controversy. In 1997, her decision to marry a commoner, Narendra Singh, caused a stir. Despite opposition from her family, they married secretly in a court in Delhi. However, in 2019, Diya Kumari and Narendra Singh divorced.
Known for her educational background, Diya Kumari holds a diploma in Fine Arts and Decorative Painting from London. She is the owner of assets worth more than Rs 16 crore, as declared in her affidavit during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Diya Kumari possesses Jaigarh Fort and Amber Fort, operates two schools, and is associated with the Maharaja Sawai Mansingh II Museum Trust and Jaipur Public Charitable Trust
The other DyCM Premchand Bairwa, is an MLA from Dudu, who secured a significant victory in the recent elections against the formidable Congress leader Babulal Nagar, triumphing by a margin of 35,743 votes. Hailing from a Dalit family, Premchand Bairwa commenced his political journey with the ABVP, initially serving in the block organization in 1995. In 2013, when Dudu was reserved for the SC category, he contested the assembly elections for the first time and emerged victorious.
By designating Bairwa as the Deputy CM of Rajasthan, the BJP has strategically showcased social engineering. Bairwa, also known as Berwa, represents the scheduled caste community in Rajasthan, as well as in Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.
The BJP's move is being seen as a strategic step before the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has demonstrated diversity by appointing a Brahmin as the CM, a woman and a dalit leader as the Deputy CMs.
During the decision-making process, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, serving as an observer, played a pivotal role. Co-supervisors Saroj Pandey and Vinod Tawde accompanied him to Jaipur. Rajnath held a one-on-one meeting with Vasundhara Raje before the legislature party meeting, alleviating concerns and potential upsets.
