Kolkata- Trinamool Congress (TMC) is set to conduct an extended organizational meeting on Thursday, where party chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to outline the party's strategy for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.

The meeting comes amid speculation about a forthcoming cabinet reshuffle and will likely address how the party plans to counter opposition criticism while highlighting the state government's social welfare initiatives.

Adding intrigue to the gathering is a recent cryptic Instagram post by party general secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee, which stated: "He who wishes to fight must count the cost." The ambiguous message has sparked questions about whether it was directed at opposition parties or rival factions within the TMC.

Notably, as of the time of reporting, the meeting's backdrop banner featured only Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's image and name as the speaker, despite Abhishek Banerjee's position as national general secretary and effective second-in-command. Party leaders have remained silent regarding this omission.

The meeting takes place against a backdrop of reported factional infighting across various parts of the state. Political observers will be watching closely to see if the Chief Minister addresses these internal conflicts ahead of next year's elections.

In recent meetings with party leaders, Mamata Banerjee has asserted that she will maintain final authority over internal party matters and organizational decisions for at least the next decade, indicating she will have the decisive voice in the upcoming party reshuffle.

The Chief Minister has already ruled out any potential alliance with Congress for the Assembly elections. Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has signaled in its draft resolution for its April Party Congress that it intends to pursue independent political strategies rather than electoral alliances.

Political observers anticipate that the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections will likely feature a four-way contest between Trinamool Congress, BJP, the CPI(M)-led Left Front, and Congress.
