New Delhi: Hours after actor Kamaal Rashid Khan, popularly known as KRK, was booked by the Uttar Pradesh Police on accusations of making derogatory remarks about Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, his brother — Majid Ali — who unsuccessfully contested the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections from Saharanpur on a BSP ticket has been expelled by the party.

However, Ali clarified that he has had no connection with KRK — originally a resident of Saharanpur’s Fulas Akbarpur area — for the past 15 years.

Sagar Jain, superintendent of police (rural), said a first information report (FIR) has been lodged against the actor based on the complaint of BSP’s Deoband unit chief Sushil Kumar under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with charges of insulting a woman and defamation.

He said the Deoband police station, where the complaint was filed, has been directed to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action.

The accusations centered around KRK’s remarks on microblogging website X (formerly Twitter), which were deemed offensive to the sentiments of the Bahujan Samaj, leading to feelings of insult within the community.

The incident has sparked discussions about the boundaries of freedom of speech and the responsibility associated with public statements, stirring both legal and social debates.
