Patna — A poster war has erupted in Patna ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the city Saturday. Gandhi will attend the “Constitution Security Conference” and participate in a worker dialogue.
Congress has plastered the city with posters welcoming Gandhi, emphasizing the significance of his visit. The posters portray the visit as a moment of dignity and solidarity. However, the BJP has responded with a series of sarcastic posters targeting Gandhi’s past statements.
One BJP poster features a quote attributed to Gandhi where he allegedly claimed his great-grandfather, Jawaharlal Nehru, played a role in defeating Bhimrao Ambedkar in an election. The poster is captioned as a “reminder to the countrymen” about Congress’ history.
Other posters highlight controversial statements allegedly made by Gandhi, including “Hindus are violent.” In response, the BJP’s posters claim, “I thought of reminding the Hindu brothers of Bihar.”
BJP leader Shailesh Mahajan criticized Gandhi for allegedly disrespecting the Constitution and Ambedkar. Mahajan further questioned Gandhi’s qualifications for prime minister, stating, “Rahul Gandhi neither believes in the Constitution, Bhimrao Ambedkar, nor does he respect anyone. Congress leaders are desperate to make him the prime minister, but what ability does he have? His only qualification is that he is the grandson of a prime minister, the son of a prime minister, and the great-grandson of another prime minister.”
The Municipal Corporation removed many posters Thursday as part of a citywide cleanliness drive, with most of the removed posters belonging to Congress. However, Congress members quickly replaced their posters Friday, escalating the visual battle. The BJP continues to counter with new displays.
