Sambhal- The survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal district, ordered by a court following a petition claiming the mosque was built on the site of a destroyed Hindu temple, was completed on Sunday. The report will be presented to the court on November 29th.
Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, who filed the petition contending that Mughal emperor Babar razed the Harihar temple to build the mosque, stated that the survey took place between 7:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. He confirmed that all necessary photos and videos were taken and that the report would be submitted to the court on the scheduled date. However, Jain refrained from disclosing any details about the survey's findings.
The survey was met with protests, with individuals throwing stones at police officers. In response, police used lathi-charges and tear gas shells to disperse the crowd, resulting in several arrests. Stringent security measures were put in place for the survey.
Advocate Jain urged the public to maintain peace and trust in the judicial process, emphasizing that legal proceedings require time. He also confirmed that a lawyer representing the Masjid Committee was present during the survey.
Sambhal District Magistrate (DM) Rajendra Painsia stated that the survey was conducted peacefully and without disruption, adding that the Jamia committee cooperated with the process. He emphasized that the survey was scheduled for a time when no namaz was offered to ensure a peaceful environment. Painsia also noted that the survey was being conducted according to court orders and that the previous attempt was incomplete.
All India Muslim Jamaat Chief Shahbuddin Razvi Barelvi appealed for peace and tranquility within the minority community in Sambhal, urging them to refrain from violence and stone-pelting.
