Srinagar- The Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Virendra Kumar, has initiated a new phase in worker safety by distributing essential protective equipment and health coverage to sewer workers in Jammu. The distribution included Personal Protective Equipment kits and Ayushman health cards, implemented under the National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE) program.

The comprehensive PPE kits provided to the Sewer and Septic Tank Workers include essential safety items such as protective masks, gloves, eye protection, face shields, protective clothing, and footwear. These items are vital for safeguarding workers who regularly face hazardous working conditions. Additionally, the workers received Ayushman health cards, which enable them to access free healthcare services at registered hospitals under the government's flagship health insurance program.

During his visit to Jammu, Kumar also inspected the Outreach and Drop In Centre operated by the JK Society for the Promotion of Youth and Masses, which functions under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction. The initiative aligns with the government's broader mission of 'Vanchiton Ko Variyata,' which focuses on uplifting historically marginalized communities. This effort represents a step toward the administration's vision of 'Viksit Bharat,' aiming to ensure that development benefits reach all segments of society.
