Garhwa- A tragic incident occurred in Nawada village, near the district headquarters of Garhwa in Jharkhand, on Friday morning, claiming the lives of four people, including three brothers. The accident happened while they were opening the settling chamber of a septic tank. One after another, the four individuals entered the tank and suffocated to death.

The incident has plunged the entire area into grief and shock. The deceased have been identified as three sons of Moti Choudhary, a resident of Nawada village, Rajoo Shekhar Choudhary (55), Ajay Choudhary (50), Chandra Shekhar Choudhary (42) and another villager, Maltu Ram.

According to eyewitnesses, Rajoo Shekhar Choudhary’s house was under construction, and a new septic tank had been built. The workers were in the process of opening the settling chamber when the tragedy struck.

Maltu Ram was the first to enter the tank but did not come out for a long time. Worried, Rajoo Shekhar Choudhary went in to check on him but also did not return. Subsequently, Ajay Choudhary and Chandra Shekhar Choudhary entered one after another, but all four got trapped inside.

Villagers standing nearby realized something was wrong when none of them came out. They raised an alarm, and after strenuous efforts, managed to pull all four out. They were rushed to Garhwa Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Upon receiving the news, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Sanjay Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Neeraj Kumar, and Garhwa Police Station In-Charge Brij Kumar arrived at the hospital with a police team to investigate. The bodies were later taken into custody and sent for postmortem.

Officials suspect that the deaths were caused by suffocation due to toxic gas inside the septic tank. The incident has left Nawada village and Garhwa town in mourning. Family members are inconsolable, and the entire village is engulfed in grief and anger.

Dr. Mehrun Yamini, Deputy Superintendent of Garhwa Sadar Hospital, stated that the bodies had been sent for postmortem. Blood and organ samples have been collected to determine the exact cause of death.
