Bhopal- In a pioneering initiative, the Municipal Corporation of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, is set to offer free coaching for competitive examinations to the children of sanitation workers. This innovative program marks the first of its kind in the state and aims to empower the families of sanitation workers. Additionally, plans are underway to construct residential complexes to provide housing for homeless sanitation workers.

For the seventh consecutive year, Indore clinched the title of the cleanest city in India, as announced during the Central government’s annual Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023 on January 11 this year.

Since the inception of the Awards in 2016, Indore has made a remarkable journey from its initial ranking of 25 to securing the top position. This significant leap in ranking is largely attributed to the unwavering dedication of its workforce.

During a meeting between the Madhya Pradesh State Safai Karmachari Commission and the Municipal Corporation, several key directives were issued to uplift sanitation workers in Indore. Discussions centered around initiatives to fill vacant positions for sanitation workers and grant them permanent employment status.

The Municipal Corporation will collaborate with coaching center in Indore to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at providing coaching services to sanitation workers' children preparing for exams such as MP PSC, UPSC, and other competitive exams.

Speaking to The Mooknayak, Safai Karmachari Commission Chairman Pratap Karosiya emphasized the significance of this initiative, highlighting the corporation's commitment to improving the lives of sanitation workers and their families.

Karosiya explained that coaching for competitive exams often comes with a hefty price tag, posing a significant financial burden for sanitation workers. By partnering with coaching centers and covering coaching fees, the corporation aims to ensure that all eligible children have access to quality education and exam preparation resources.

In alignment with the Commission's directives, the Corporation will also organize camps to provide dismissed and suspended sanitation workers with an opportunity to present their cases. These decisions were made during a comprehensive review meeting on sanitation worker welfare, on Saturday, attended by Commission Chairman Pratap Karosia, Municipal Commissioner Harshika Singh, and representatives from sanitation worker organizations.

Karosiya engaged with relevant department officials to address various aspects of sanitation worker welfare, including the mandatory deduction of EPF and ESI for all part-time sweepers and the regularization of outsourced employees as Municipal Corporation staff on a contractual basis. Municipal Commissioner Harshika Singh affirmed the Corporation's commitment to providing free coaching for sanitation workers' children and outlined plans to develop an action plan for its implementation.
