India's Paralympic Triumph: Historic Medal Haul in Paris

Country surpasses Tokyo 2020 performance with 29 medals, including 7 golds

New Delhi- At the just concluded Paris 2024 Paralympics, India managed to bring home a historic total of 29 medals, including seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze. This is the most successful Paralympics campaign in India's history, topping the 19 medals won by the country at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

According to a news release, the 84 Indian para-athletes who took part across 12 disciplines included women's 10-meter air rifle standing SH1, men's club throw F51, javelin throw F64, high jump T63, and archery.

Some of the notable winners include Avani Lekhara, who won two gold medals for defending her title in the women's 10-meter air rifle standing SH1 event with a score of 249.7 points, and Harvinder Singh, who became India's first Paralympic or Olympic archery champion, winning gold in the men's individual recurve event.

The country's para-athletes also provided a historic first in the javelin throw event, with Sumit Antil, who set a new Paralympic record with a throw of 70.59 meters, breaking his own record from Tokyo 2020 three times during the competition.

The Paris 2024 Paralympics were a historic success for India, and the country is set to build on this momentum in the upcoming years. With the 29 medals, India has crossed the 50-medal milestone in the history of the Paralympic Games.
