Congress Blasts PM Modi Over Manipur Inaction

New Delhi- Congress leader Pramod Tiwari has criticized the timing of Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's resignation, declaring that "the BJP will never be free from this stain." Speaking to IANS on Monday, Tiwari highlighted the devastating impact of the ethnic violence in Manipur, citing widespread violence, displacement, and destruction, while criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's absence from the state despite repeated calls from opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, to intervene.

Tiwari condemned the BJP's handling of the Manipur crisis, pointing to Singh's continued tenure despite what he termed a "failed" leadership that allowed violence to escalate. He also questioned the Prime Minister's decision to travel abroad during the ongoing crisis. The Congress leader's comments came after Singh submitted his resignation to Governor A.K. Bhalla on Sunday, following months of ethnic conflict between Meitis and Kuki-Zos that began in May 2023.

While discussing broader political issues, Tiwari addressed electoral concerns within the INDIA bloc, questioning the narrow losses in states like Haryana and strategic decisions in Goa and Gujarat. He maintained confidence in the opposition alliance's strength and unity. Additionally, Tiwari expressed concern about the massive traffic congestion at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, where pilgrims reportedly faced jams stretching up to 300 kilometers, and called on both state and central governments to ensure devotees' safety and comfort.
