Bhubaneswar- President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the new Judicial Court Complex in Bhubaneswar on Thursday and stressed the need for swifter justice delivery, particularly for the underprivileged.

President Murmu highlighted the negative impact of adjournments on the common people, stating, "If justice is not delivered on time, then it is equivalent to not getting justice. The poor suffer the most due to the culture of adjournment. They have neither the money nor the manpower to come to the court frequently." She expressed confidence that stakeholders would prioritize addressing this issue to ensure timely justice for all.

The President also addressed the language barrier faced by many, noting that it hinders their understanding of legal proceedings. She commended the initiative of translating court judgments into Odia and Santhali, making them accessible on the Supreme Court and Orissa High Court websites.

President Murmu emphasized the importance of a welcoming environment for litigants, stating that it is crucial for ordinary citizens to feel comfortable interacting with the judicial system without fear. She acknowledged that many people feel nervous before lawyers and judges and stressed the need for a sensitive environment in courts so that they can express themselves freely.

President Murmu commended the significant representation of women in the Odisha Judicial Service, which currently stands at 48%. She expressed hope for further increase in female participation in the judiciary in the coming years.

She expressed satisfaction with the utilization of technology to expedite the justice delivery system in the country.

The President expressed confidence that the state-of-the-art facilities at the new Judicial Court Complex would facilitate the smooth functioning of the judiciary and contribute to efficient justice delivery.
