New Delhi- The Central government launched the retail sales of onions in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) at a subsidized rate of ₹35 per kilogram. The sales will be conducted through mobile vans and National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF) retail outlets.

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Prahlad Joshi, initiated the scheme on Thursday by flagging the vans from Krishi Bhawan.

The move of retail sale of onions at ₹35/kg is seen as a step towards bringing relief to consumers. Officials from NCCF and NAFED were also present during the event.

This market intervention aims to stabilize local onion supplies and control the increasing prices of the essential commodity. Consumers across the region will benefit from this more affordable option. The mobile vans will cover 38 locations, including Krishi Bhawan, NCUI complex, Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, Patel Chowk Metro Station, CGO complex, and parts of Noida and Ghaziabad.
