New Delhi- Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the critical role of cybersecurity in national security, stating that the country's development cannot move forward without it. Speaking at the 1st Foundation Day of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) in Delhi, Shah highlighted the borderless nature of cybercrime and urged all stakeholders to collaborate to tackle this growing threat.

"Cybersecurity is now integral to national security, and the nation's progress is tied to it. While technology is a powerful tool that drives economic growth, it also brings significant risks. Ensuring cybersecurity is crucial to safeguarding our nation. Platforms like I4C will play a pivotal role in this mission," said Shah.

He also revealed the government's plan to train 5,000 cyber commandos over the next five years to combat cybercrime effectively.

Shah further proposed the creation of a national cyber suspect registry, which would compile information from all states to enhance crime prevention efforts. He announced that starting September 10, I4C will launch a nationwide public awareness campaign using over 72 TV channels, 190 FM radio stations, and other platforms to educate citizens about cybercrime prevention.

"The success of this campaign relies on making victims aware of how to protect themselves. The more widespread the awareness of the '1930' helpline, the better the response to cybercrime incidents will be," he urged.

Highlighting India’s increasing digital footprint, Shah noted that 46% of the world's digital transactions now take place in India. He praised I4C's efforts, mentioning that it has issued over 600 advisories and blocked various cybercriminal activities, including websites, social media accounts, and mobile apps.

I4C was established on October 5, 2018, under the Ministry of Home Affairs' Cyber and Information Security (CIS) Division. Its primary mission is to coordinate efforts nationwide to combat cybercrime and ensure a secure digital space for India.
