New Delhi- The Cockroach Janta Party has strongly condemned the systematic delays and procedural obstruction by Delhi Police and state authorities in the ongoing proceedings before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) concerning party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who are now spending their fifth day in Tihar Jail.
On October 14, Das and Ranka were sent to five-day judicial custody for allegedly entering Jantar Mantar despite police orders and trying to disturb the peace.
Addressing the media after the day’s court proceedings yesterday evening, Cockroach Janta Party Legal Head Ratna Singh detailed a pattern of deliberate obstruction. She said hearing schedules were repeatedly pushed back without any prior notice, forcing defence counsel to wait from 12:00 PM onwards. The Special Executive Magistrate and the Public Prosecutor finally arrived only at 5:30 PM. Instead of proceeding on the merits of the release plea, the authorities raised an alleged threatening message supposedly sent to the Magistrate , without placing any verification, supporting facts, or formal documentation on record.
“The Public Prosecutor, who failed to appear for four consecutive days, suddenly arrived today and attempted to divert the proceedings toward an alleged threatening message,” Ratna Singh told the media. “When our legal team demanded that the authority register an official order, identify the sender, and initiate proper action against the individual responsible, the Magistrate and Prosecutor refused to proceed with the hearing on merits and prepared to leave.”
Singh emphasised that unverified and unsubstantiated allegations regarding external messages have no legal bearing whatsoever on the bail or release conditions of Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. The Cockroach Janta Party has accused the state machinery and Delhi Police of intentionally sabotaging the judicial process, delaying verification approvals, and fabricating pretexts solely to prolong the illegal detention of its leaders in Tihar Jail.
The party’s “Tiranga Lehra Do” campaign faced targeted state action. Party founder Abhijeet Dipke and activist Neha were detained by Delhi Police during the campaign activities; both were released the following day. CJP had condemned these detentions as further evidence of a consistent pattern of harassment against peaceful democratic protest and has reiterated that such tactics will not deter the movement’s demand for accountability.
The Cockroach Janta Party has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing all available legal remedies before higher judicial forums to challenge what it terms state-sponsored harassment and to secure the immediate release of Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. As of now, both leaders remain in judicial custody, with their release plea still unheard amid what the party describes as deliberate delays and procedural irregularities.
