New Delhi- Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, emphasized that the welfare of farmers is a top priority for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Highlighting several recent government decisions, Chouhan stated that the import duty on edible oils has been raised from 0% to 20%, with an effective duty of 27.5%. This move is aimed at benefiting oilseed farmers, particularly soybean and green gram cultivators, by ensuring better prices for their crops. The decision is expected to boost Rabi oilseed sowing and increase the production and export of soya khali, further aiding related sectors.

Additionally, the Modi government has removed the minimum export duty on Basmati rice, which will result in better prices for farmers and higher export demand. The basic duty on refined oil has also been increased to 32.5%, leading to a rise in demand for mustard, sunflower, and groundnut crops, which in turn will benefit farmers and create employment opportunities in rural areas.

Chouhan also announced a reduction in the export duty on onions from 40% to 20%, a move aimed at providing better prices to onion farmers and increasing exports. These decisions reflect the government's commitment to supporting farmers and promoting agricultural growth.
