Promoting environmental sanitation in rural communities

New Delhi- Various ICAR Institutes of North Eastern India are taking part in the Swachhata for Swachhata Hi Seva campaign and the Special Campaign 4.0 of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Education (ICAR). The campaign aims to create a sense of community among villagers and promote environmental sanitation.

Under the campaign, dustbins have been installed in local market places where waste is generated more in order to prevent pollution. Local bodies and shopkeepers are being educated about the importance of dry and wet waste management and recycling.

The swachhta banners are being put up at prominent places of the villages to draw attention to the importance of swachhta and sanitation for farmers and villagers. The initiative also aims to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean and stress-free mind among villagers. Experts from ICAR institutes are holding discussions with village workers to emphasise the significance of cleanliness in daily life for better health and well-being. The sessions will also focus on practical steps to maintain hygiene in households, personal cleanliness, and the community environment. The campaign's key messages will encourage community members to adopt healthy and sustainable habits to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment.

The Swachhata for Swachhata Hi Seva campaign is part of the broader Swachh Bharat Mission of ICAR. The project aims to create long-term behavioural changes in rural communities through education and interaction. The campaign seeks to foster a sense of community among villagers and promote environmental sanitation.
