Hyderabad- Severe flooding has submerged over a hundred villages in the Khammam, Mahabubabad, and Suryapet districts of Telangana, leaving many other areas isolated due to rising waters.

Heavy rains continue to pound various parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad. Kamareddy and Nizamabad districts recorded the highest rainfall, exceeding 22 cm. The situation in Khammam is particularly alarming, with hundreds of people stranded on hilltops, rooftops, and highways due to overflowing streams and rivers that have been swollen by relentless rainfall over the past two days.

In response to the crisis, 9 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed for rescue operations. The floods have also disrupted transportation, with floodwaters washing away sections of railway tracks. The South Central Railway has canceled over 90 trains and rerouted several others due to the adverse conditions. Five trains are currently stranded in floodwaters in the Kazipet-Vijayawada section. State officials have successfully relocated over 5,600 passengers to safer areas.

Additionally, vehicles have been left stranded for kilometers along the National Highways connecting Telangana to other states due to extensive flooding. As a safety measure, the Telangana state government has declared a holiday for all primary and secondary schools in Hyderabad and other affected districts. Hyderabad itself has been grappling with severe waterlogging and flooding as heavy rains continue to lash the city.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast more heavy rainfall for the region over the next two days, raising concerns about further flooding and damage.
