Defense Ministry Announces Massive Tree Planting Drive

15 Lakh Trees to be Planted Across India for Independence Day

New Delhi- The Ministry of Defense has planned to plant 15 lakh trees across the country on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day ceremony of the country. The trees will be planted by the three services of the country and associated organizations such as DRDO, Defence PSUs, CGDA, NCC, Sainik Schools, Ordnance factories.​

The initiative is a part of the ‘Ek PedMaa Ke Naam’ campaign of the government. Under this campaign, trees will be planted by the citizens in memory of their mothers. The trees are to be planted on the occasion of the Independence Day ceremony of the country.

It may be recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign on the occasion of World Environment Day on 5 June 2024, and urged everyone in India and across the globe to plant a tree as a tribute to the mothers.​

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has also participated in the campaign and planted the tree in memory of his mother. He called upon the people to join the campaign in protecting nature and contribute actively in making the movement for environment protection more effective and dynamic.​
