Delhi Coaching Center Tragedy: Key Figures Arrested, MCD Officials Dismissed

Bulldozers deployed at site, DCP appeals protesting students to maintain peace

New Delhi: In response to the coaching center incident in Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, significant measures have been undertaken. On Monday, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) dismissed the Junior Engineer (JE) and suspended the Assistant Engineer (AE).

Concurrently, a bulldozer is actively removing slabs from a covered drain at the site. Reports indicate the presence of three bulldozers at the location. Encroachments from the drain adjacent to Rao Coaching Center are being cleared. Additionally, Delhi Police arrested five more individuals, including four building owners and the owner of a Thar vehicle.

The building has four owners: Sarabjit Singh, Tejinder Singh, Harvinder Singh, and Parvinder Singh. All four are cousins residing in Karol Bagh. They had rented out the basement area of the Rao IAS Coaching Center to its owner, Abhishek Gupta, for a monthly rent of ₹4 lakhs.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Ashwani Kumar has taken significant action, terminating the JE and suspending the AE. DCP Central M. Harshvardhan confirmed that five more suspects have been arrested, bringing the total number of arrested individuals to seven.

Among those arrested are the basement owners and an individual whose vehicle damaged the building’s gate.

DCP Says No Leniency for Guilty:

DCP M. Harshvardhan told ANI, "Anyone found guilty in this incident will not be spared. We are taking strict action against those responsible and maintaining law and order in the area."

Regarding the death of three UPSC candidates, DCP Central M. Harshvardhan mentioned that commercial activities were not permitted in the basement.

They have sought some information from the MCD and will also investigate their role. A thorough investigation is underway from all angles. He appealed to the protesting students to maintain peace and not block main roads, assuring that strict action is being taken in this matter.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal filed notice on Monday for suspension of business of Rajya Sabha under Rule 267 for discussion on Delhi tragedy demanding justice and compensation for the 4 UPSC aspirants who have died in Patel Nagar and Rajender Nagar. Maliwal had on Sunday, interacted with the kin of the students who lost their lives.
