Underprivileged Girl Locked in Generator Room Over Unpaid Fees, DM Orders FIR Against School

In another incident highlighting the discriminatory behavior of private schools towards underprivileged students admitted under the Right To Education (RTE) Act, a girl student was locked inside the generator room at Pinnacle National School in Pandu Nagar, Kanpur district, due to non-payment of fees.

The incident came to light during a meeting called by the District Magistrate regarding RTE. The girl's father alleged that he had admitted his child under the RTE Act, which exempts economically and socially backward class students from fee payments. However, the school management repeatedly harassed them for fees. In response, the District Magistrate of Kanpur, Vishak G, directed the concerning authority to file an FIR against the school management.

These incidents shed light on the violation of RTE exemptions. The Right To Education Act, 2009 mandates free and compulsory education for children aged 6 to 14. The act also provides a 25% reservation for economically and socially backward classes and differently-abled children. As per the act, schools are required to provide education free of cost, with reimbursement from the government.
