Motorcycle diaries tell untold stories of Dalit atrocities

Some Dalit youths in Odisha are recording stories of Dalit atrocities by taking out a Motorcycle diary, which is being made into a repository by the name of motorcycle diaries. The youths are grappling with different problems in this Yatra. Helping the Dalits, and Adivasis in every way possible. It was started on the parinirvandiwas (death anniversary) of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. This Yatra was started by Dalit Social Activist Madhusudan after being inspired by Kanshiram’s cycle yatra. The yatra has so far covered 1100 kilometres. Dalit organizations are covering one village in three days. This Yatra is known as “Motorcycle diaries- An untold story". Madhusudan said that the Yatra's main objective is to address problems like discrimination, etc.

Brahmpur district lies in Odisha district. In this district lies Ambedkar Nagar village in lanjipuli area. Madhusudan, a known Dalit activist started the yatra from this village. The aim is to conclude this Yatra on 14th April 2023.

Madhusudan started this yatra with 35 people on Motorcycle. He says that Kanshiram united the people by carrying out a cycle yatra. He solved their problem. The yatra has been started after getting inspired by him.

1100 Kilometers of journey complete

Madhusudan says, “ We have covered a distance of 1100 kilometers with 35 riders. We are raising the voice of Dalits, oppressed and deprived by going to their villages."

3000 villages covered in 12 days

Madhusudan says “We are going to the nearby villages. We have met people in 12 villages. We have personally met 3000 people in these 12 villages. Only 19 days have passed in this yatra."

Madhusudan says “We are contacting Dalit, backwards, marginalized and the women. We are visiting each home, listening to their agonies. We organize to raise their voice and redress their grievances through the administration’s help."

The Duration of the Yatra

Madhusudan informs “we started this Yatra on the Mahaparinirvan Diwas of Baba Saheb Ambedkar i.e. 6th December 2022. It has completed 20 days. This will get over on 14th April 2023, which happens to be the Birth Anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar. Through this yatra we are going to every village and are trying to domass contact and create mass awareness. We aim to meet half of every village's population, make them aware of their rights, and solve their problems."
