Wedding guests beaten in Kanpur, Dalit was beaten in Gonda for touching dish

Lucknow— Two shocking instances of Dalit atrocities have come to light in Uttar Pradesh. In the first incident of Naubasta Village of Gonda district, a Dalit was brutally beaten for touching dishes of people having dinner at a wedding. Aggrieved by this, seven men brutally assaulted him. The sister of the victim lodged a case under the (Prevention of Atrocities) SC/ST act. While in another case of the Rajpur area in Kanpur Dehat a wedding procession was attacked for riding a horse by the members of the Upper Castes. This incident left many injured. The police have registered a case on the basis of the statement of the victim.

The First Case

Renu lives in the Naubasta Village of Wazirganj block of the Gonda district. Renu says "My younger brother Lalla went to Chacha of the village for dinner at a wedding ceremony. The arrangement was made at the doorstep of one Sandeep Pandey of the village. My brother touched his plate of Sandeep while eating, this infuriated Sandeepand he misbehaved."

Renu says further "When my brother returned home then Sandeep Pandey, Amresh Pandey, Shravan Pandey, Ajit Pandey, Vimal Pandey, and Ashok Pandey reached home and started beating my brother with sticks. My elder brother Satyapal rushed to save him. They assaulted him also and damaged his bike."

What do the authorities have to say about this?

Station Officer Chandra Pratap Singh said, "A case has been registered under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) act against seven people. Raids are being conducted for the arrest of the accused".

The Second Case

Ramesh, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste community lives in the Rajpur area of the Kanpur district. He told that "On 7th December 2022 the Baraat (Wedding Procession) of my daughter arrived at a guest house in the Kanpur district. The  Baraat of my daughter was approaching the guest house. A wedding procession of upper castes was also coming from the other side, in which 8-10 people opposed the  Baraatof Dalits and started abusing them. The police were informed about this. Our Baraat was taken out with the help of the police."

Agitated people attacked

Ramesh told "Infuriated by this, 50-60 people entered the Guest House with sticks and attacked the people from the groom's and bridegroom's side. Women and Children were also attacked. They also damaged the gifts meant for the bride."

The Wedding took place in the presence of police security.

The wedding rituals were conducted in the presence of the police, which came after getting the news of the attack. "No action has been taken by the Police at the Rajpur Station. The family submitted a plea at the SP office demanding action in the case."

What do the authorities have to say?

SSP Ghanshyam Chaurasia said "Arrest will be made after identifying the accused with the help of the CCTV camera footage. For this, two teams have been set up. The attackers are believed to be from Jalaun.  They came there to attend a wedding."

Case registered against eight people.

After the case reached the SP the police have named Digvijay Singh, Ramchandra Singh, Bhagwan Singh, Anurag, Sachin, Shivam, Deepak, Indrajeet and some unknown people on the basis of Ramesh's Complaint. The case has been registered under rioting, voluntarily causing hurt, assault, criminal intimidation, and others, and under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
