New Delhi- The future of the Indo-Pacific Region is uncertain. The conference, titled The Future Indo-Pacific : Building a Resilient and Interconnected Region, emphasised the need for a rules-based international order and the primacy of global institutions in maintaining peace in the emerging multi-polar and multilateral world.
A robust Artificial Intelligence (AI) model that is constantly updated can provide policy fidelity and maintain checks and balances, especially in terms of the use of strategic weapons, said CISC Lt General JP Mathew, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC). This would be a regressive step to impose strict regulations on AI, he added. The future of the Indo-Pacific, safeguarding the international system, regional capacity building, and the threats and opportunities of emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence, were some of the major issues discussed.
The conference, which took place in Hawaii from September 18 to 20, saw the participation of 28 countries and multilateral organisations. The primary goal of the gathering was to enhance military-to-military cooperation. This annual event serves as a forum for developing consensus and is in line with the dedication to a rule-based world order. The CISC underscored the importance of developing flexible and dynamic councils within international organisations to address contemporary challenges. The conference also discussed the potential opportunities for regional cooperation in areas such as digital transformation, science and technology, green economy, and sustainable development.
