New Delhi- Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, addressed the Merchant Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Kolkata on Wednesday, stressing the importance of effectively managing India-China differences to foster smoother relations. Acknowledging that disagreements are natural between close neighbors, Xu emphasized that the way forward lies in resolving these issues constructively.
He expressed optimism over the recent disengagement at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, particularly in the Depsang and Demchok sectors, noting that these efforts are key steps toward stable bilateral ties. Xu pointed to the recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping at the BRICS Summit, saying it set a positive example for handling complex issues.
The ambassador further highlighted the potential for growth in trade, education, and science, urging cooperation across sectors. He also expressed hope for the resumption of direct flights between India and China, which were halted in 2020, to ease travel and strengthen connections. On his first visit to Kolkata, Xu extended warm Diwali wishes to the people of India.
