New Delhi- The government has taken a significant step forward in its efforts to reduce tobacco usage among young people. The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have recently issued a joint advisory to all States and Union Territories, urging them to implement the Tobacco-Free Educational Institution (ToFEI) manual.
This step is in line with the government's efforts to create a smoke-free environment in educational institutions and promote tobacco control measures among students, teachers, and staff. The advisory has been signed by the Secretaries of the Department of School Education, the Department of Higher Education, and the Department of Health & Family Welfare.
The ToFEI manual provides comprehensive guidelines for educational institutions to implement anti-tobacco measures effectively. It outlines the following objectives: creating awareness about the harmful effects and long-term health impact of tobacco use; promoting awareness about the various avenues available for tobacco cessation; and ensuring a healthy and tobacco-free environment in educational institutions. The manual also emphasizes the role of teachers and parents in promoting tobacco control measures among students.
The government is committed to protecting the health and well-being of future generations. This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in safeguarding young people from the dangers of tobacco addiction and promoting a smoke-free environment in educational institutions. The implementation of the ToFEI manual will ensure that educational institutions are tobacco-free and safe for all.
