New Delhi- The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), in collaboration with its Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and Autonomous Bodies (ABs), is participating in the 'Swachhta Hi Seva 2024' campaign. The initiative is being supported by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Jal Shakti, aiming to enhance public participation in cleanliness efforts and large-scale sanitation drives, with a focus on transforming neglected areas and black spots into healthy, clean spaces.

More than 100 locations have been identified as Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) where significant efforts will be made to improve sanitation and cleanliness. The campaign also seeks to celebrate the contributions of sanitation workers and reaffirm the nation's commitment to complete cleanliness under the theme ‘Swabhav Swachchata, Sanskar Swachchata.’

As part of the campaign, CPSEs such as Bridge & Roof Co. (India) Ltd. have conducted cleanliness drives at sites including Santragachi Railway Station in West Bengal and the Rudraprayag Project Site in Uttarakhand, both designated CTUs.

Parallelly, a major tree plantation campaign under the banners #एक_पेड़_माँ_के_नाम and #Plant4Mother was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 5, 2024, coinciding with World Environment Day. The campaign aims to address land degradation, enhance drought resistance, and prevent desertification by planting 80 crore trees by September 2024 and 140 crore trees by March 2025.

Under this initiative, Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, led a significant tree plantation drive at the Cement Corporation of India Ltd. Residential Township in Bokajan, Assam, on September 21, 2024. The drive has already resulted in the planting of over 92,000 trees across CPSEs and ABs under MHI.

Notable tree plantation activities include those by the CISF at BHEL’s Bhopal Unit, Engineering Projects (India) Limited in Delhi, CCI in Rajban, Himachal Pradesh, and NATRAX in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh.

The dual focus on cleanliness and environmental conservation under the 'Swachhta Hi Seva 2024' and tree plantation initiatives showcases the commitment of the Ministry of Heavy Industries and its associated bodies to promoting sustainable development and ecological well-being across India.
