New Delhi- To improve the students’ performance in the final class of the secondary school, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has proposed a new evaluation model.

Under this model, the students’ marks from classes 9th to 11th will be added to their class 12th results. The weightage of formative and summative marks in each class will be adjusted gradually from class 9 to class 12.

For class 9, the formative component will be 7% with the remaining 30% for summative assessments. In class 10, the 50% formative and 50% summative division will continue, while in class 11, the 40% formative and 60% summative distribution will be adopted. In class 12, 30% formative and 70% summative marks will be the final component.

"Consequently, the cumulative marks at the end of the secondary stage are 15 percent for class 9, 20 percent for class 10, 25 percent for class 11, and 40 percent for class 12," the report states. "This means that students' performance over the years will play a significant role in their final scores."

The proposed framework will also help in evaluating the students' progress on the basis of their academic achievements.
